Gudrun Kittel-Thong
M.Ed.; Parent Counsellor Career Assessment & Life Direction Coach

Originally from Germany Gudrun Kittel-Thong has lived in Hong Kong for over 20 years.

Her background is that of a language teacher and school counsellor. Now also a trained coach she applies her combined coaching and counselling skills to work with individuals, adolescents and families many of whom with a diverse cultural background.

In coaching Sessions Gudrun works with professional and private individuals who want to gain new and better perspectives in their lives. By supporting her clients to rely and build on their particular strengths they find new achievable goals or clarify their immediate and long-term plans.

‘I can see issues in other people’s lives that they don’t see: pattern, re-occurrences, the real wishes and urges that people put on the back burner for a long time.

It is always the client who determines what he or she wants to talk about and which direction to take, how big or small the steps are that bring relief. I as the coach keep the client focused and on track, I listen and encourage and help to find the answers that are already there.’ On coaching: www.coachgudrun.com

In her counselling sessions with parents she listens closely to the description of home and school situations, the development of the child or adolescent over the years. With specific questions she builds up a bigger picture of what the current issues are and the influence of possible unsolved issues from the past. Her experience lets her read ‘between the lines’ of what is said in order to hear what each family member wants to communicate.

Her own background of a bi-cultural family gives her deeper understanding of the strengths and challenges within a multi cultural home.

Mrs. Kittel-Thong facilitates communication between family members. Her input is that of a neutral listener who helps clarify a situation and/or pinpoint a problem. The acting on any changes that improve the current issues is left to the individual with support from her.
